FOR THE CULTURE

SOUND & VISION

FOR THE CULTURE

Radio Zeitwarp started life as an informal way of supporting touring musicians with somewhere to crash for free in between gigs - bedding down for the night in the storeroom above our studio.

From that basic beginning, the idea expanded to think in terms of assembling a community of people interested in Art & Music - completely free from the control and 'curation' of the social media algorithms. Then to harness that community to power a 'cultural association' that supports musicians and artists directly with funding, promotion, touring logistics and performance opportunities.

This was partly inspired by the Arroz Estúdios model in Lisbon.

SNARE BnB

GIG ECONOMY

SNARE BnB

Gigging is a key income stream and promotional vehicle for musicians looking to survive and grow their audience. However, touring outside of the local area gets expensive quickly with transport, food and especially accommodation making nationwide touring a pipe dream

Even the most basic accommodation can be a massive drain on a touring budget and swallow up a significant portion of the gig fee.

'Snare BnB' is a spin-off project from Radio Zeitwarp with a plan to extend what we have been doing since 2017 into a network of free crash pads for touring musicians.

Maybe together we can do something to stop the next Ed Sheeran sleeping on the Circle Line between gigs...

CODA: WHY RADIO ?

"A LONG TIME AGO THERE WERE PIRATES"

CODA: WHY RADIO ?

When I was thinking about Radio Zeitwarp as an overall concept I was envisaging it as a kind of lifeboat / lighthouse thing to help and guide musicians on their career journey.  (The name obviously draws inspiration from the great pirate radio ships of the 1960's.)

Part of that is going to be broadcasting from Radio Zeitwarp itself.

Music 'selecting' has been a long term passion and I've been lucky enough to start doing a handful of live DJ sets over the last few years.

In terms of genres, my interest is in the spectrum of jazz-adjacent, high intensity/energy, electronic and experimental music. With a few notable exceptions, most of the bands and musicians out there making this type of music have relatively small followings. They're usually self-releasing their music and getting only occasional airplay. So I've decided to try to help them by setting up a dedicated radio show on MixCloud.

The show's called 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Jazz?' and it will be broadcast on a monthly basis to begin with.
